About the Opportunity

Join AXA Ireland as a Retail Portfolio Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our Retail Lines portfolio.

In this dynamic position, you will coordinate portfolio management activities, contributing to the development, refinement, and delivery of effective portfolio strategies tailored to our business needs. You will be responsible for monitoring and controlling financial performance across relevant lines of business, ensuring alignment with company objectives. Additionally, you will lead engagement with Distribution and third-party partners to enhance pricing and underwriting performance.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor teams of underwriters, actuaries, data scientists, and subject matter experts to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Oversee third-party supplier relationships to ensure alignment with departmental goals.
  • Deliver pricing and underwriting activities that enhance financial performance and ensure strong customer outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with Irish, UK and Group standards, implementing best practices in underwriting processes.
  • Monitor business performance against KPIs, identifying trends in sales and retention to mitigate risks and seize opportunities.
  • Lead the review of retail lines portfolios, developing data-driven portfolio management tools.
  • Act as the business lead on cross-functional projects, providing updates to senior leaders on emerging risks and performance.
  • Foster talent development within the Pricing and Underwriting Department, setting annual objectives and conducting performance reviews.
  • Identify key talent and implement succession plans while addressing skills gaps to meet future objectives.
  • Analyse employee engagement scores and take action to tackle emerging issues, ensuring a positive work environment.

Eligibility

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a pricing/underwriting management/ financial planning and control or risk role, with 3 years of management experience preferred and proven ability in performance management of delivering successful results.
  • An experienced insurance professional, possessing insurance business knowledge in evolving risk, regulatory and corporate governance environment with a CIP Qualification required.
  • A relevant business degree or accountancy qualification, Diploma in Insurance or ACII desirable.
  • Commitment to participate in continued professional development to keep up to date with developments in general insurance and the Irish market.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant business classes, underwriting performance metrics, and current legislation impacting the market.
