Why I pursued IPMA Certification

Why I pursued IPMA Certification

Project management has become a global profession with project management established as the pre-eminent method for implementing change in the world with project, programme and portfolio managers are leading the way.

The professionals of tomorrow will work in distributed environments with overlapping and often conflicting stakeholder interests.

The burden has never been higher for these individuals to produce measurable results on time, on budget, within scope and while meeting the quality criteria. They also need to demonstrate that their skillset is at the cutting-edge of the needs of the profession.

The internationally acclaimed IPMA 4 level certification system supports the growth of individuals and of organisations as they grapple with increasingly competitive project environments.

It provides a comprehensive inventory of technical, behavioural and strategic competences that an individual needs to have or to develop to successfully master, the project, the programme or the portfolio that the individual is tasked to manage.

IPMA Level B Graduates

Four recent graduates who have successfully attained their IPMA Level B accreditation explain their rationale for doing so.

Olivia Fitzpatrick, Irish Life Group Ltd

Olivia has a Diploma in Marketing, Languages & International Business Studies and Information Technology from Leinster Business Institute. She is currently a Senior Programme Manager for Irish Life Group Limited and is responsible for Acquisition Programme Management.

Why I pursued IPMA Certification?

As a Senior Programme Manager in the Irish Life Group I have managed many programmes in Ireland and across Europe. Achieving my IPMA Level B Certified Senior Project Manager qualification has independently appraised my skills and competencies in the field of project management.

IPMA is recognised worldwide giving my company and customers the confidence that the standards that I adhere to have been verified. I believe this qualification has given me the edge in a competitive business environment.

Richard Warner, John Sisk & Son Ltd

Richard is an experienced Civil Engineer and Project Manager within the construction industry. He is currently the Operation Manager for Sisk-Steconfer joint venture on the Luas BXD_400 Light Rail project.

Why I pursued IPMA Certification?

I have spent over 20 years working in the construction industry, with over 10 of those years in a project management capacity. The achievement of the IPMA Level B - Certified Senior Project Manager was important to me, in that it helped me to evaluate, reinforce and enhance existing project management practices that were not aligned with a formal project management methodology.

In addition, it has provided me with the knowledge to develop and continuously improve fully integrated project management systems, processes and tools that are effective on complex projects, as well as the credibility to lead on their implementation and roll-out. I also believe the attainment of this qualification will resonate with prospective clients for projects where I am the proposed project manager.

 Krystyna Linkowska, LMC Engineering

Krystyna has a MSc in Building Services from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. Krystyna is an Associate Director at LMC Engineering and has 12 years of experience in the construction industry in Ireland.

Why I pursued IPMA Certification?

Being rewarded with IPMA Level B certification formally concedes my experience and knowledge in the field of Project Management. This worldwide recognised certification adds value to my professional development and future career but also populates the importance of official appreciation of the Project Management role in the industry I’m working in, which is construction.

It allowed me to appraise my past experience but also start considering where, how and what I want to achieve next. IPMA is a great building platform which will allow to demonstrate to your future Clients and employers’ tangible assets of you as a Senior Project Manager.

Dave Toole, John Sisk & Son Ltd

Dave has a B.Sc. in Building Management. He has extensive experience in Construction over 23 years in Ireland, UK, Germany and Australia through Engineering, Agent and Project Management roles. Dave is currently the Interface Manager for the Main Infrastructure Works contract on the Luas Cross City project.

Why I pursued IPMA Certification?

I have worked for many years in SISK, a top-tier Construction & Civil Engineering firm. As my career has developed my focus has shifted from Engineering towards Project Management. Winning and delivery of complex engineering projects such as Crossrail in London and Luas Cross City in Dublin has highlighted the importance of effective Project Management concepts and techniques.

The learning, guidance and validation provided by my development through IPMA levels C and B has given me the confidence to tackle more complex projects and interact at higher levels within large organisations and with important stakeholders. This learning and recognition allows me to present myself and my firm better in all my dealings.

Professional Advancement with IPMA Certification

Organisations and business of today need personnel with solid project management competence. Certified project managers know how to deliver with quality, faster and less expensively. Taking this advanced certification provides confidence to clients that the company can handle the clients’ business efficiently and cost effectively. It also provides positive proof that the individual concerned has gained peer recognition of his/her ability to manage projects.

IPMA project management certification can empower you with the skills and knowledge you need to take control of your career and maximize your potential.
