About the Company

Our client, a large, complex organisation based in Dublin has a superb opportunity for a Director of Knowledge Exchange to join them.

About the Position

This role will lead and manage a highly skilled team of 35 people with oversight of knowledge transfer activities for intellectual property, commercialisation and development and research contracts funding from public and private funders. The role will require an individual providing high level leadership, management, and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities

* Represent the organisation regionally, nationally, and internationally in promoting the quality and value of the entrepreneurship and innovation environment
* Implement the organisation’s strategy to support and their profile and reputation
* Provide expertise to various departments on commercialization of IP across all sectors.
* Create a shared vision for the KnEx approach to research-related contracts and commercialization of IP
* Influence at the most senior levels in the organisation to get agreement to the policy and culture change that is required to implement the relevant innovation and entrepreneurship strategies.
* Contribute to national and international research related policies and practices and engage with senior management and/or stake holders to progress policies arising from legislative changes
* Manage the patent portfolio and provide thought leadership nationally on intellectual property management and ensuring the organization is operating at best international practice
* Ensure the negotiation of commercial licensing agreements with spinouts, and indigenous and international companies.
* Manage the budget and finances of KnEx, including the patent budget.
* Manage the staff within KnEx, setting their performance targets, managing their reviews, and supporting them in the delivery of their roles.

Experience/Requirements

* Minimum 10+ years’ relevant experience of research contracts in a large scale/complex environment / scale of operations
* 3rd level qualification in a related field (An MBA or Post-graduate degree would be an advantage)
* High standard and knowledge of all areas of law related to IP, research contracts and commercialisation
* Knowledge of the National Intellectual Property Protocol, intellectual property aspects of research contracts and intellectual property agreements (NDAs, MTAs, licence agreements, etc.);
* Knowledge of the research funding environment in Ireland and abroad;
* A proven track record of managing senior staff
* Robust experience managing budgets, engaging with outside counsel/advisors and ability to make sound decisions for the collective benefit for the progression of the team;
* Strong project management skills and excellent communication skills
* Excellent negotiation skills with proven ability to successfully negotiate complex multi-party research agreements
