Freelance Digitalisation Project Manager – Pharmaceutical Industry
Project Scope This long-term digitalisation initiative within a global pharmaceutical manufacturing environment focuses on the implementation of a Digital Twin in a CAPEX context. The overarching goal is to automate and digitize critical infrastructure and operational workflows across production environments, ensuring enhanced traceability, reliability, and predictive maintenance capabilities. This project is part of a broader strategic investment in IT infrastructure and smart factory capabilities. The mission will require strong leadership, cross-functional stakeholder alignment, and hands-on planning in IT Infrastructure (Networking, Cloud, Data Centres), Automation, and CAPEX budget management.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities Lead the full project lifecycle of Digital Twin implementation across infrastructure and operational teams. Manage and engage multidisciplinary teams, driving project momentum and clarity across engineering, IT, and business functions. Act as primary point of contact for stakeholders; proactively manage expectations, resistance, and alignment across departments. Create and manage detailed project plans, including forecasting, budgeting, risk analysis, and status reporting. Oversee and contribute to administrative tasks including documentation, planning updates, and internal reporting. Ensure timely delivery of project phases, with clear visibility into deliverables, KPIs, and governance models. Maintain compliance with regulatory and quality frameworks (GMP, V-cycle, documentation control) where applicable. Push forward automation opportunities, identifying and integrating technologies to streamline operations. Collaborate closely with IT Infrastructure teams on architecture, networking, and security considerations.
Requirements
Must-Have: 3–4 years minimum experience as a Project Manager in IT/Digitalisation domains. Proven experience leading digitalisation or automation projects in CAPEX environments. IT Infrastructure/Technology background (Networking, Security, Cloud, Data Centre Lifecycle, etc.). Demonstrated CAPEX budget management experience (planning, tracking, forecasting). Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills. Ability to translate technical topics for business audiences and vice versa. Fluency in English (spoken and written).
Nice-to-Have / Bonuses: French language skills. Experience working in the pharmaceutical or regulated food industry. Familiarity with GMP, V-cycle methodologies, or other regulatory frameworks. PMP Certification (Premium rates offered for certified candidates). Hands-on experience with Automation technologies (hardware/software integration). Proven track record managing CAPEX budgets of €1M+. Experience in framing quality and technical documentation.
Industry: Pharmaceuticals Contract: Freelance Start Date: July Location: Belgium (Remote Role) Contract Length: 6 Months + Guaranteed Extension Onsite Policy: Fully Remote Hours Per Week: 40 Languages: English (French is a considerable bonus)
