About the Opportunity

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) seeks to appoint an Administrator (Executive Officer Standard level) to work in its Project Office for a fixed term of 2 months.

About the Institute

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI), founded in 1960, is located in Dublin’s South Docklands area. Our mission is to produce high quality research, relevant to Ireland’s economic and social development, with the aim of contributing to knowledge and informing policymaking and public debate. We have over 110 staff including Economists, Sociologists, and other Social Scientists, in addition to professional support and technical staff. The Project Office

The ESRI’s Project Office is responsible for the management and administration of funding related activities such as:

  • Providing support and advice to researchers in relation to activities including assisting with the preparation of tenders, business cases and programme area budgeting.
  • Managing information systems in relation to time recording, cost allocation and resource planning.
  • Preparing financial reports on projects and programmes, i.e. cost statements, work-in-progress, outturn reports, liaising with external clients and auditors.

The Project Office, in collaboration with research colleagues, is currently implementing Vidatum, a comprehensive Research Management System designed to streamline the administration of research funding.

Responsibilities

  • Update and collate administration files on current and upcoming research projects.
  • Develop a system and process for collating data.
  • Verify data held with other functions (such as the Accounts Office etc.).
  • Analyse data to ensure there is no duplication.
  • Enter administrative data on the new Research Management System.
  • Schedule meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Assist with other administration duties as required.
  • Ensure any information gaps are identified with remedial action plans agreed with the relevant colleague.

Qualifications, Experience and Skillset

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • A minimum of two years’ relevant work experience.
  • Experience of financial project administration and a high level of competence working with spreadsheets.
  • Be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organisation skills including time management.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with high level of accuracy.

Desirable

  • Experience in a research project administration.

Location

ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2. Applicants should note that staff have the option of working remotely from their home in Ireland on a ‘blended’ basis with a minimum requirement of one day per week (or as business requires) based in the ESRI office. This arrangement is running on a pilot basis. Full details will be provided at interview.

Terms & Application Procedure

  • The role is full-time; 35 hours per week.
  • Standard working hours are 09.30-17.30, Monday – Friday.
  • The appointment will be for an initial period of two months (potentially extended to three months), subject to satisfactory performance.
  • Candidates will be appointed at the first point of the Executive Officer (Standard) scale, i.e., €37,919 per annum on a pro-rata basis.

Interviews will be held via MS Teams; it is expected that these will take place on Friday 07 November 2025.

The successful candidate should be available to start during the week commencing 10 November.
