Purpose

The Senior Manager, Pharmaceutical Project Management (PPM) role is accountable for the supervision and development of staff supporting the portfolio within PPM. The Senior Manager and staff supports assets in all stages of drug development (e.g., discovery to marketed products) and may support multiple Business Units and Therapeutic Areas.

People Management and Development

* Manages and develops a staff of up to ten individuals.
* Accountable for recruiting, onboarding, developing, and retaining appropriately qualified PPM staff with expertise in project management, drug development, and cross-functional leadership.
* Ensures performance and development goals are in place for staff and contributes to staff development through coaching, mentoring, shared learning, and direct feedback to enable current goals and future state functional and business objectives.
* Leads performance management processes for staff members including career development; provides input into merit/compensation, talent assessment and succession planning discussions for staff.
* Holds individuals accountable for their performance management objectives; ensures direct reports adhere to current policies, procedures and training requirements; promotes application and consistency in using approved processes that will aid in meeting departmental objectives.
* Models the Lilly leadership behaviors and establishes an environment where performance, business results, and work/life balance are valued and where individuals learn and grow.
* Champions and supports shared learning and connections across PPM through various shared learning opportunities and forums.

Portfolio Management and Delivery

* Accountable for management, prioritization, and delivery of book of work assigned to Cork PPM staff in partnership with the global PPM management team to meet portfolio needs and priorities.
* Develops strong collaborative relationships with business partners and leadership as well as areas that support project management function as communication interface with these areas regarding activities, priorities, and feedback.
* Champions commitment to quality and ensure quality of staff work products.
* Appropriately escalates portfolio and employee related issues.
* Provides timely communication to staff regarding the strategic direction, realignment of new assignments and new processes.
* Identifies, proposes, and leads solutions for a range of organizational, operational, and technical challenges.

Knowledge & Experience required:

* Four-year degree preferably in a health-related, scientific or engineering field.
* Minimum of 3 years of work experience with basic project management tools and processes (e.g., management of integration, scope, time, cost, quality, communications, risk, etc.).
* Practical experience in people management, coaching & development.
* Demonstrated ability to work and influence across multiple functions, regions, internal/external customers, and management.
* Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills; able to develop effective teamwork between team members with diverse interpersonal styles; able to deliver effective coaching and feedback.
* Effective communication skills. Communicates effectively up and down in an organization and maintains confidentiality with respect to strategic and personnel matters.
* Strong self-management and organizational skills.

Other Information/Additional Preferences

* Higher degrees or certifications (e.g., MS, MBA, Master’s degree in Project Management or PMP).
* Prior knowledge and/or practical experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or drug development.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project (or related tools) and capable of maintaining appropriate project documentation.
